Charles Pettaway, DeBose Artist, 2005, hales from the studio of Natalie Hinderas, first DeBose Artist  (1976).  Currently Pettaway is Associate Professor of Piano in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts at Lincoln University, Pennsylvania.  Education has included studies at the Philadelphia Musical Academy, Temple University, the Ravel Academy, Tangelwood Summer Music Festival and The American Conservatory at Fontainbleau, France ; private study in piano performance and theory with Nadia Boulanger, Claude Frank, Gaby Casadesus, Gunther Schuller, Phillipe Entremont, and Clement Petrillo.

A first place award recipient for piano performance in competition from Bartok, Kabalevsky International Piano Competition, and the Robert Casadesus International Piano Competition. Performances throughout the United States on radio and television. Venues have included: Kennedy Center (Washington D.C.) Symphony Hall (Chicago) Carnegie Hall (New York) Academy Of Music (Philadelphia)  International performances have included: Tours of Switzerland, Russia, France,  Israel. Mr. Pettaway made his  European Orchestral Debut with Capital Orchestre of Toulouse (France).

Charles Pettaway Performs Russian Piano Music, CRS label is a one-of-a-kind recording for lovers of the Romantic spirit.  He has been honored with distinguished biographical inclusion in: Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education (2008-09). He is currently listed in the latest editions of The International Who's Who in Music, Who's Who in American Music, Who's Who Among Black Americans and Great American Keyboard Artists.(2010-2012)  Recipient of Douglas Humes and Victor Marianne Music Awards, Walter Damorsch Memorial Music Fellowship, Baranke Fellowship, Edward Gerrugus Fellowship and related scholarly honors.

He presently serves as a Commonwealth speaker for the Pennsylvania Humanities Council (2010 through 2012).
