LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa.  – This fall, the Office of Information Technology launched a new co-curricular program to ensure students of all majors have access to active and collaborative learning opportunities.

“We believe that providing opportunities for students to gain hands on experience in a professional environment is very important toward their growth and development,” said Justin McKenzie, Lincoln’s chief information officer. “This is an example of how the Office of Information Technology is creating opportunities that promote student success.”

The new Student Worker Success Program, which aligns with theme two of the University’s new strategic plan, will allow students to gain knowledge of the information technology field including client support and interaction, problem solving and research, general knowledge of IT hardware and infrastructure as well as basic trouble shooting skills that will assist the department in aiding the needs of the campus community.

During the program’s orientation, McKenzie welcomed students with breakfast, and a meet and greet with faculty members. The program currently has eight students; McKenzie said he plans to double that amount.

According to McKenzie, the group of student workers will be an integral part in helping the Office of Information Technology move toward obtaining its vision of becoming a high performance team that provides technology excellence while advancing the teaching, learning and research in alignment with Lincoln University’s mission and goals.

In addition to the new student program, the Office of Information Technology has made enhancements and upgrades to technology across campus. The upgrades include phone system upgrades to the Department of Public Safety and the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, Wi-Fi upgrades to Lorraine Hansberry Hall and Apartment Style Living, as well as upgrades to classroom technology.

In addition to the chief information officer, the full-time information technology staff includes a manager of technology support services, two programmer analysts, five desktop support technicians, a switchboard operator, administrative assistant, database administrator, and network engineer.
