Wondering how you will pay for college? We can help you find a way. At Lincoln University, we understand that education is an investment and students have always been our greatest investment. Lincoln is committed to helping a greater number of academically qualified students graduate than ever through our scholarship offerings. Scholarships are “non-repayable” aid and Lincoln offers several different types of scholarships to help defray the cost of attendance for freshmen, transfer and international new students. 

Lincoln University is accepting new student scholarship applications for the 2022-2023 academic year.

Freshmen Merit Scholarships

Freshmen Merit Scholarships are awarded exclusively to new incoming first-time freshmen on a competitive basis. Scholarships are awarded based on merit, considering outstanding academic achievement and standardized test scores (ACT or SAT) as well as co-curricular involvement demonstrated in the scholarship application. Students that qualify MUST submit an application for consideration.

This scholarship includes the following types of awards: President's Award, Provost's Award and Dean's Award

AMOUNT: $8,000 - $18,000
DEADLINE: February 1

To qualify for the freshmen merit scholarships, applicants must meet the following criteria:​

  • Minimum GPA: 3.30 cumulative
  • Minimum Test Score:
    • 1020 SAT
    • 20 ACT (Composite)
  • Academic level: Incoming freshman
  • Application status: Admitted
  • Enrollment status: Full-time
  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the U.S.

This scholarship award can be renewed for up to 3 additional years (totaling 4 years) if the scholarship recipient meets the renewable criterion. All criterion are listed on the scholarship award notice.

Note: This scholarship award cannot be combined with the Liberated Lion Leadership Award, Need-Based Award or Alumni discount.

Liberated Lion Leadership Award

The Liberated Lion Leadership (L3) Award is for incoming freshmen who have distinguished themselves through outstanding leadership qualities and academic excellence. The primary focus of this award is leadership, which may be demonstrated through traditional school activities, work responsibilities, community involvement, church-related activities, and family commitments. The award recognizes the accomplishments of youth leaders and seeks to encourage and support potential leaders. Students that qualify MUST submit an application for consideration.

AMOUNT: $5,000 - $8,000

The Liberated Lion Leadership Award (L3) is an annual award with a value ranging from $5,000 - $8,000. In order to be considered for this competitive scholarship, applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Minimum GPA: 3.00 cumulative
  • Academic level: Incoming freshman
  • Application status: Admitted
  • Enrollment status: Full-time
  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the U.S.

This scholarship award can be renewed for up to 3 additional years (totaling 4 years) if the scholarship recipient meets the renewable criterion. All criterion are listed on the scholarship award notice.

Note: This scholarship award cannot be combined with other institutional merit scholarships or need-based awards.

Need-Based Scholarship

Need-Based Scholarships are awarded to freshmen and transfer students based on a combination of demonstration of financial need, and in some cases, non-academic requirements. The Need-Based Scholarship is used to help close the gap between the cost of college and what a family can afford. All eligible students are awarded the need-based award as funds are available. Students that qualify DO NOT have to submit an application for consideration.

The Need-Based Award is an annual award varying in value according to the students financial need. In order to be considered for this award, students must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Academic level: Freshman or Transfer
  • Application Status: Admitted
  • Demonstration of Need: Free Application for Federal Student Aid on file and have financial need as defined by Title IV regulations.
  • Enrollment status: Full-time
  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the U.S.

Students are not required to submit an application for consideration of the need-based scholarship. This scholarship award can be renewed for up to 3 years if the award recipient meets the renewable criterion. All renewable criterion are outlined in the scholarship award notice.

Note: This scholarship award cannot be combined with other institutional merit scholarships, liberated lion leadership award or transfer scholarship.

Lion Transfer Scholarship

The Lion Transfer Scholarship is awarded to students transferring to Lincoln University from another college on a competitive basis. Academically qualified students transferring from a community college, students that have earned an Associate’s degree, or students seeking a new institutional home should apply for our Lion transfer scholarship to assist with the financial cost of the transition. Students that qualify MUST submit an application for consideration.

AMOUNT: $2,000 - $3,000
DEADLINE: April 15

The Lion Transfer Scholarship is an annual award with a value ranging from $2,000 - $3,000. In order to be considered for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Minimum GPA: 3.00 cumulative
  • Academic level: Transfer
  • Credit hours: 28+ transferrable credit hours
  • Application Status: Admitted
  • Enrollment status: Full-time
  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the U.S.

This scholarship award can be renewed for up to 6 additional semesters if the scholarship recipient meets the renewable criterion. All renewable criterion are outlined in the scholarship award notice.

Note: This scholarship award cannot be combined with other institutional merit scholarships or need-based awards.

International Student - Merit Scholarship

Lincoln University has a long history of enrolling international students, from countries around the world. The International Student Merit Scholarship supports students enrolled on an F-1 visa on a competitive basis. Scholarships are awarded based on merit, considering outstanding academic achievement and standardized test scores (ACT or SAT) as well as co-curricular involvement demonstrated in the scholarship application. Students that qualify MUST submit an application for consideration.

To qualify for the international student merit scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:​

  • Minimum GPA: 3.30 cumulative
  • Minimum Test Score:
    • 1020 SAT
    • 20 ACT (Composite)
  • Academic level: Incoming freshman
  • Application status: Admitted
  • Enrollment status: Full-time
  • Citizenship: Must be an international student (F1 - Visa Status)

This scholarship award can be renewed for up to 3 additional years (totaling 4 years) if the scholarship recipient meets the renewable criterion. All criterion are listed on the scholarship award notice.

Note: This scholarship award cannot be combined with the Liberated Lion Leadership Award, Need-Based Award or Alumni discount. 

General Scholarship Guidelines

  • Most scholarships are based on the applicant's academic or extracurricular record, while some are based on other criteria. Satisfying the initial criteria listed does not guarantee that a student will receive an award.
  • Applicants who submit a scholarship application will be considered based on available funding each year.
  • Lincoln-funded scholarships are never "refundable", and unused funds cannot be carried over to subsequent semesters.
  • Lincoln-funded merit scholarships align with the University’s strategic vision and encourages academic leadership and professional development. Students that receive merit scholarships are committed to academic excellence and participate in a variety of enrichment opportunities, to include community service.
  • To avoid missing out on possible scholarship opportunities, please become familiar with the information regarding the scholarships’ requirements, award amounts, and deadlines.
  • Students requesting scholarships must complete a scholarship application and must also submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the deadline listed for each scholarship. International applicants applying for the international scholarship are not required to submit a FAFSA.
  • Scholarship funds will be utilized after all other federal, state, private, and external resources have been applied to a students’ account.
