Lincoln University, PA– African Americans represent only 12% of the U.S population, but they account for more new HIV infections and AIDS cases, than any other racial/ethnic group in the country.

This unnerving statistic inspired Lincoln University student organization People Standing United (PSU) to partner with alumnus Kash Goins ’94 to present the socially conscious play VI Degrees.

“As a peer counselor, I know the significance of informing the public about these alarming statistics and educating them on prevention practices,” said senior Lawrence Lisby III, president of PSU.  “After hearing about Kash Goins’ innovative way of illustrating this message, we knew that this play was something we had to bring to Lincoln University and the surrounding community.”

Goins scripted VI Degrees as an original theatrical work.  The play examines a social sexual network of colorful characters, which engage in the dangerous activities that have commonly contributed to the high rates of HIV/AIDS in the community.

The play will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 26, 2010.  This event is not only the first theatrical performance in the new state-of-the-art International Cultural Center, but also the first production in the theater by an alumnus.

Goins’ entertainment company, GoKash Productions, is a dedicated advocate for informing the community about testing and prevention methods through the arts.

He jump-started his career by engaging the skills learned from a solid business program and the artistry acquired from a rigorous drama association at Lincoln University.

VI Degrees has the “wow” factor that will compel viewers to get tested,” said Goins.

Last May the Downtown Urban Theater Festival (DUTF) in New York City showcased VI Degrees and awarded the production the honor of “Best Play.”

PSU is also working in conjunction with the Women’s Center and the Student Government Association at Lincoln University to hand out “safe-sex” materials to all in attendance.

The event is open to the public.  Tickets are $7 for Lincoln University students and $10 for non-students. Viewers are urged to purchase tickets online atwww.psu1995.ticketleap.com.
