LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA – Dr. William (Bill) Cosby, comedian, actor and philanthropist, will be performing live on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 8:00 p.m. to kick off Lincoln University’s Founders’ Day/Reunion Weekend.

The performance will be held on Lincoln University’s main campus in the state-of-the art International Cultural Center, which seats over 1,000 patrons.

General admission is $95, which includes the live performance and general reception.  VIP tickets, including the live performance, as well as VIP reception and photo op with Dr. Cosby, are available for $150.  Alumni celebrating their reunion year can purchase tickets for general admission to the reception and live performance for $75.

Sponsorship packages are also available: Title ($25,000), Lead ($10,000), Presenting ($5,000), Supporting ($2,500), VIP Reception ($2,500), and Reception ($1,000).

Dr. Cosby, who has spent several decades championing for higher education, has donated this performance to assist Lincoln University in raising money for student scholarships.

He considers himself a “late bloomer.”  He said he did not realize the value of a formal education until the first four days of boot camp in the U.S. Navy.  However, Dr. Cosby is now a strong advocate for higher education and with his wife by his side has contributed funds to a wide range of universities and delivered commencement addresses to further emphasize the importance of learning.

Dr. Cosby believes that one can never reach the maximum capacity of learning.  Even after achieving his success, he went back to school to obtain his masters degree, as well as an Ed.D.

“People always say ‘You don’t need money, why are you still working?’” said Dr. Cosby. “My answer is that it isn’t about money.  That’s academic. It’s about accepting the challenges of one’s own ideas, clarifying the unanswered questions and pursuing the excitement of discovery.”

This will be Dr. Cosby’s second appearance at Lincoln, after visiting in 2006 for a special lecture inspired by Lincoln University Men’s basketball team’s feature on ESPN.  Dr. Cosby will also be the commencement speaker and honorary degree recipient for the University the following day, May 1 at 1 p.m.
