Cheryl Martin, a noted inspirational speaker, author and award-winning broadcaster, will speak at Lincoln University on Friday, March 18, 2005, starting at 11 a.m., in Dickey Hall Auditorium on the campus in southern Chester County, PA.

In addition, at 12:30 p.m., Martin will address Lincoln’s Communications Club Awards Luncheon on the topic of “Giving Honor to the Best”, in the Marshall Living Learning Center Faculty Dining Room. From 3-4:30 p.m., she will discuss her book, First Class Single: Rules for Dating and Waiting God’s Way, in room 104 of Dickey Hall.

On Saturday, March 19, at 9:30 a.m., she will speak at the campus brunch, Women’s Celebration Weekend, in the Student Union Building.

After growing up in Houston, Texas, Martin left to attend Northwestern University where she received an undergraduate degree in speech and a master's degree in Broadcast Journalism. She was one of the first alumni inducted into the Medill School of Journalism's Hall of Achievement for excellence in journalism.

Martin’s career in news began when she was hired out of graduate school by NBC as a news associate for its television station in Washington, DC. She eventually became a reporter there, and then went on to produce and report for other stations in Washington, including the ABC affiliate. She joined Black Entertainment Television (BET), a national cable network in 1992 as an anchor, reporter and producer. For five years, she was the host of "Lead Story," the network's Sunday news analysis program.

Despite her professional achievements, Martin’s passion remains God's Word and effectively communicating its relevancy in the 21st century. Her commitment is so strong that in 2002, she left her high-profile position to devote more time to speaking and writing. Audiences nationwide have experienced Martin using the “ABCs” of accuracy, boldness, and clarity in her presentations.

Martin is the author of First Class Single: Rules for Dating and Waiting God’s Way and the co-host of the radio program, “The Relationship Fitness Show.” She also serves on the U.S. board of World Vision, an international Christian humanitarian organization serving the world's poorest children and families in nearly 100 countries.
