Sandra D. Yates has been appointed Director of Development and Major Gifts for Lincoln University. She reports to Michael B. Hill, vice president of Development and External Relations.

Yates' primary responsibilities are to assist the vice president with fund-raising activities and cultivate gifts for the University. In addition, she is responsible for enlisting University deans and other academic leaders in identifying potential donors, and maintaining campus-wide understanding and support for Development's mission.

Before joining Lincoln on January 2, Yates gained nearly a decade of experience identifying and cultivating potential donors, as well as supporting, creating and implementing development strategies. She previously worked at People's Place II, Inc., a Milford, DE social service agency that helps the homeless and others in need of assistance; Swarthmore College, Swarthmore, PA; and the American Red Cross of the Delmarva Peninsula, which has offices in Easton, MD; and in Wilmington, Milford, and at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware.

While working in the Milford office as development manager for the Red Cross, Yates exceeded the organization's special event fund-raising goals for 2001. For two years at Swarthmore, she significantly upgraded the average gift size from members of the 20th year alumni classes.

From 1983 to 1987, Yates served in the U.S. Air Force and received an honorable discharge after earning a commendation medal, Inspector General Recognition, and the designation of Marksman. She recently completed studies for her bachelor of science degree in economics at Wesley College, in Delaware. She also has received the Certified Fund Raising Executive credential (CFRE) from the organization's Professional Certification Board in Alexandria, VA.

Yates' track record of consistent professional achievement is accompanied by an equally consistent track record of community service. In the State of Delaware, she is a member of the board of directors of the Brandywine Chapter of the Association for Fund Raising Professionals, Steering Committee of the YWCA Kent County Study Circles and a former capital campaign consultant for the Milford Historical Society.
