LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA ~ State Representative Art Hershey presented Dr. Lenetta Lee, former tenured professor at Lincoln University and graduate of the class of 1985, with a citation recognizing her charter school for its educational achievements.
The Erin Dudley Forbes Charter School, founded in 2001, made AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress) for two years in a row based on the mandated statewide standardized tests. To achieve AYP, a majority of the students tested in the grades three through six scored proficient or higher on the tests.
Hershey’s relationship with the school goes back to the support of the school when it was being formed. He wrote letters of support for the school and has stayed in touch with staff members and students over the years. He supports the school’s different approach to education, with small classes and an emphasis on reading. The school started with classes from kindergarten through second grade, with new classes added each year through sixth grade. There are currently about 80 students attending the charter school.
To be successful on the standardized testing, the work is year-round, beginning with professional development on the last day of school and a data retreat in the fall to assess where the students are and what they need to work on.
Lee thanked the staff members, families, board members and students for their help in making the school a success. “It’s a whole school effort. We focus on the whole child,” Lee said.
The Erin Dudley Forbes Charter School is a tuition-free alternative to public school. Located at 225 Barnsley Road, Oxford, PA, the school offers classes for students, kindergarten through sixth grade, with a curriculum that stresses literacy and reading across all subjects.
