Lincoln Participates in “Real Men Cook for Charity” Event on Father’s Day, June 20 at Adam’s Mark Hotel in Philadelphia

President Ivory V. Nelson will preview the event and discuss the health behaviors of African-American males on a June 13th radio show, WPHI 103.9 F.M. 

Lincoln University, PA — Lincoln University will participate in the 15th annual “Real Men Cook for Charity” event on Father’s Day, June 20, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the main ballroom of the Adam’s Mark Hotel, on City Avenue and Monument Road, in Philadelphia.

Lincoln’s “Real Men Cook for Charity” team will consist of Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Dr. William B. Bynum, Jr., and the University’s Office of Minority Male Health (OMMH). The team will sponsor Lincoln alumnus Stefan Jordan, class of 1985. Jordan will prepare health-conscious recipe of “Last Man Gumbo (Seafood Gumbo).” In addition, Lincoln’s Office of Minority Male Health will conduct blood pressure and diabetes screenings in the hotel’s auditorium. The University’s Office of Admissions will also staff a booth to distribute enrollment information to potential students.

As a preview to the upcoming Philadelphia “Real Men Cook for Charity” event, President Ivory V. Nelson, Ph.D., and Dr. Vincent Pearson, senior medical director for Independence Blue Cross, and a 1972 Lincoln graduate, will discuss the health behaviors that place African-American males at risk on the WPHI 103.9 F.M. (The Beat) Sunday news magazine show on June 13 at 8 a.m. Dr. Pearson is a member of OMMH's Advisory Board. The radio program is hosted by newsman E. Stephen Collins, who is a member of Lincoln's ACT 101/TIME program's Advisory Board.

Lincoln is one of five Historically Black Colleges and Universities that received part of a $1 million grant last year from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services/Office of Minority Health to address health awareness, prevention and education in chronic diseases relative to minority males.

Philadelphia is one of 11 major cities across the country, including Los Angeles, New York and Atlanta that annually participates in “Real Men Cook for Charity.” The event honors fathers and the positive accomplishments of men in the community on Father’s Day. In addition to Lincoln, Philadelphia’s “Real Men Are Cooking” event sponsors include NBC 10, the Adam’s Mark Hotel, 103.9 FM (The Beat), The Philadelphia Tribune, Communities in Schools of Philadelphia (CISP), Males Achieving Responsibility Successfully and Careers Through the Culinary Arts.
