Lincoln University President Ivory V. Lincoln University, PA (www.lincoln.edu)— Lincoln University today announced that the institution has received a commitment of $1 million from the Oxford Foundation to renovate the University's Ware Fine Arts Center, Theater and Studio.
"Lincoln University is very pleased to receive this very generous gift from the Oxford Foundation to renovate our campus facility for the study of fine arts. The Foundation's gift demonstrates strong support of the University and helps us to continue to provide an excellent higher education to current and future generations of students, in a first-rate facility," said President Ivory V. Nelson, Ph.D.
President Nelson added, "This marks the first significant gift of its kind that Lincoln has received from a major donor in Chester County, Pennsylvania. It clearly signals our strengthened relationship with our community and supporters as we prepare to launch our one-hundredth and fiftieth anniversary celebration. The renovation of the facility reaffirms Lincoln's commitment to our students. Once the work is completed, the Ware Fine Arts Center will also be of great educational and cultural value for the community and region."
Opened in 1965, the two-story, 23,020 gross square-foot Ware Fine Arts Center is named in memory of Clara E. and John H. Ware, Jr., longtime friends and supporters of the University. "We are equally pleased to contribute to the revitalization of Lincoln University and the campus facility that bears the names of Clara E. and John H. Ware, Jr.," said Paul W. Ware, chairman of the Board of Directors for the Oxford Foundation. "The Oxford Foundation looks for organizations that do good work in excellent ways. For nearly one hundred and fifty years, Lincoln has been in the forefront of American higher education as a leading university that produces excellent and successful graduates."
Founded in 1947 in southern Chester County, Pennsylvania by John H. Ware, 3rd, and Marian S. Ware, the Oxford Foundation, Inc., is a private family foundation dedicated to promoting excellence in health, human services, education, early childhood development, historic and environmental preservation, arts and culture, and public policy planning.
Lincoln University's Ware Fine Arts Center includes an auditorium, recording facilities, a gallery for art exhibits, faculty offices, seminar quarters and classrooms.
Founded in 1854 in southern Chester County, PA as America's first Historically Black University, Lincoln University provides the best elements of a liberal arts and sciences-based undergraduate core curriculum and selected graduate programs to meet the needs of students living in a highly technological and global society. The University enrolls approximately 2,000 undergraduate and graduate students.
