Program Runs May 19-June 27, Targets Philadelphia-Area In-Service Teachers
Lincoln University, PA (www.lincoln.edu)— As part of its continuing mission to expand the number of teachers specializing in mathematics and science, Lincoln University’s Continuing Education Teaching Resource Center (CETRC) will kick off its summer program for Philadelphia-area, in-service instructors on May 17 from 9 a.m.- 2:30 p.m. at the University’s Center for Graduate and Continuing Education at 3020 Market Street in Philadelphia.
The CERTC summer program will run May 19 through June 27, Monday through Thursday, 5 p.m.-8 p.m. and will be conducted at the Center for Graduate and Continuing Education. CERTC is part of Lincoln’s NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) MASTAP (Mathematics and Science Teacher Partnership Program) and a three-year grant the University received from the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center to train teachers to utilize NASA’s educational materials and research in their K12 classrooms. Dr. Richard O’Daniel is the principal investigator for Lincoln’s NASA MASTAP program, and director of the University’s Center Graduate and Continuing Education. Dr. Cora Turpin, director of Lincoln’s NASA MASTAP CERTC, said the summer program provides Philadelphia-area, in-service teachers with the undergraduate pre-course work they need for graduate study and state teacher certification.
The CERTC summer program course schedule will include Linear Algebra, Calculus I, College Geometry, Real Analysis I, General Biology I and Environmental Science. Enrollment is limited to teachers who qualify for advanced graduate work.
Founded in 1854, Lincoln University is the nation’s first Historically Black University and combines the best elements of a liberal arts and sciences-based undergraduate core curriculum and selected graduate programs to meet the needs of students living in a highly technological and global society. Lincoln recently kicked off its yearlong celebration of its Sesquicentennial (150th anniversary) with a special ceremony and Honors Convocation. The celebration of Lincoln’s 150th anniversary will continue through May 2004 with an array of campus and external events, activities, an announcements.
