LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA – Lincoln University will host a musical performance by the Brandywiners Chorale on Saturday, May 8th at 7:30 pm.  The concert includes a broad range of familiar songs by well-known composers.

This production is open to the public.  This is the first musical performance by the Brandywiners Chorale to be held in the university’s new state-of-the-art theatre.  This $26.1 million International Cultural Center is located on Elkdale Road. The concert is free.  Seats are not reserved.

“We are looking forward with great anticipation to the performance in our new facility of the Brandywiners Chorale,” President Ivory V. Nelson said.  “Their presence will continue to support our efforts to provide quality programs and performances for the enjoyment of the Lincoln University community.”

The Brandywiners Chorale is a group of 60+ mixed voices that has been performing for 22 years in a variety of locations in Delaware, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.  Their director, Darrin Peters, and piano accompanist, Marian Chau, are professional musicians.

The chorale will take center stage marching down the aisles to Irving Berlin’s Blue Skies.  A change of pace occurs with Johnny Mercer’s ballad, Dream. Another Mercer song, Jeepers Creepers, will get your feet tapping.  A medley of hits from the twenties includes For Me and My Gal.  The Gershwin brothers offer the humorous Let’s Call The Whole Thing Off and On The Sunny Side of the Street.

More contemporary songs are included in Eric Clapton’s Tears in Heaven and Hallelujah from the movie Shrek.  A patriotic tribute is found in God Bless The USA.  Interacting with the audience, some members of the Chorale dance and sing in the aisles.  They will perform to Fly Me To the Moon and I’ve Got The World on a String.

A concert tradition is to perform a medley of songs from the musical show that will be performed by their parent organization, The Brandywiners, Ltd.  This year’s show is Frank Loesser’s GUYS AND DOLLS.  The closing song in this medley is Sit Down You’re Rockin’ the Boat.  These are just some of the songs that will be performed in this concert.  A program will be provided.

“I’ve been told this new theatre is state-of-the-art similar to the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia,” said Director Darrin Peters.  “This performance will be the highlight of our spring series of concerts.”

The Brandywiners, Ltd. is one of the largest non-profit theatrical groups in the Delaware Valley and has been presenting musicals for 78 years in the Open Air Theatre at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA.  Profits are donated to cultural, educational and civic causes.

Performances of GUYS AND DOLLS will be held at 8:30 pm July 29, 30 and 31 and August 5, 6, and 7, 2010.  A $25 ticket also includes all-day admission to Longwood Gardens on the date of the performance, free parking and a spectacular fountain display after the show.  New this year is online ticketing.  Tickets are now available.
