Lincoln University To Participate in “Real Men Cook for Charity” Event on Father’s Day, June 20 at Adam’s Mark Hotel in Philadelphia

Lincoln President Ivory V. Nelson, Ph.D., and Independence Blue Cross Senior Medical Director to preview event with discussion on health behaviors of African-American males on June 13th radio show. 

Lincoln University, PA Lincoln University, PA – Lincoln University, celebrating its 150th anniversary as the nation’s first Historically Black University, will participate in the 15th annual “Real Men Cook for Charity” event on Father’s Day, June 20 from 3 p.m. - 6 p.m. at the Adam’s Mark Hotel, City Avenue and Monument Road in Philadelphia.

Lincoln’s “Real Men Cook for Charity” team will include University President Ivory V. Nelson, Ph.D., Dr. William B. Bynum, Jr., Lincoln’s Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management; and University’s Office of Minority Male Health (OMMH). The team will sponsor Lincoln alumnus Stefan Jordan, class of 1985. Jordan will prepare health-conscious recipe of “Last Man Gumbo (Seafood Gumbo).” The event will occur in the hotel’s main ballroom. In addition, Lincoln’s OMMH will conduct blood pressure and diabetes screenings in the hotel’s auditorium. The University’s Office of Admissions will also staff a booth to distribute academic and program information to potential students. 

As preview to the upcoming Philadelphia “Real Men Cook for Charity” event, President Nelson and Dr. Vincent Pearson, M.D., senior medical director for Independence Blue Cross, and 1972 Lincoln graduate, will discuss the health behaviors that place African-American males at risk on the WPHI 103.9 F.M. (The Beat) Sunday news magazine show on June 13 at 8 a.m. The radio program is hosted by E. Stephen Collins. Lincoln is one of five HBCUs that received part of a $1 million grant last year from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services/Office of Minority Health to address health awareness, prevention and education in chronic diseases relative to minority males.

Philadelphia is one of 11 major cities across the country, including Los Angeles, New York and Atlanta, that annually participate in “Real Men Cook for Charity.” The event honors fathers and the positive accomplishments of men in the community on Father’s Day. In addition to Lincoln, Philadelphia’s “Real Men Are Cooking” event sponsors include NBC 10, the Adam’s Mark Hotel, 103.9 FM (The Beat), The Philadelphia Tribune, Communities in Schools of Philadelphia (CISP), Males Achieving Responsibility Successfully and Careers Through the Culinary Arts. Advance tickets to Philadelphia’s “Real Men Are Cooking” event are $20 ($25 at the door) for adults and $10 for children 12 years old and under. Tickets are now on sale at all Ticketmaster outlets, the Adam’s Mark Hotel, October Gallery, Perfect Touch Graphics and Framing and the Blue Horizon.
