Nelson speaks at St. Paul's Baptist Church in Philadelphia on Sunday, November 18, 2001 on the topic of Educating Minority Students for the New Millennium. In his message, President Nelson, who has achieved a national reputation for his leadership in higher education, urged support for the nation's Historically Black Colleges and Universities. He also asked for the development of strong "school, church, community partnerships" to help ensure that minority youth achieve an effective education and seek college degrees.

Lincoln University, the nation’s first degree-granting Historically Black College and University (HBCU), educates and empowers students to lead their communities and change the world. Lincoln offers a rigorous liberal arts education to a diverse student body of approximately 2,200 men and women in more than 35 undergraduate and graduate programs.
