Lincoln University, PA – Lincoln University will be represented at the National Communication Association Convention (NCA) November 17 – 21, 2011 in New Orleans, Louisiana by Dr. Murali Balaji and Dr. Nadine Gabbadon who are faculty members of the Mass Communications Department.

The National Communication Association Convention is the oldest academic association in the country.  The National Communication Association Convention is themed, “Voice” for its 97th consecutive year of getting communication professionals together in one place to celebrate, educate, and display the many accomplishments, needs, and changes in the communications community around the Nation.

While attending the convention, Dr. Balaji will be presenting his research on “Twitter, Cultural Industries and the Political Economy of Celebrity.” Dr. Balaji believes this convention is very important because it keeps with the ideal that research in mass communications is extremely important.  He says, “It is very important for our faculty to be engaged in research because our students need to know the diverse aspects of media and communications. Research has a lot to do with the advancement that has occurred within the mass communications field.”  He went on to say, “I am very excited about the passion and excitement Lincoln University students have shown within the Mass Communications Department here.”

Dr. Gabbadon will be presenting her research on “You Can be Old, As Long As You’re Young: Advertisers’ Construction of the 50-plus Target Model.”  Dr. Gabbadon echoes Dr. Balaji’s sentiments stating, “NCA plays a critical role in keeping communication scholars engaged in research by allowing us to share and receive feedback from scholars about our own work, as well as gain exposure to new ways of thinking about communication research.”

President Nelson stated, “I am elated to know Lincoln University will be represented at this year’s NCA Convention.  The participation of our faculty in this event is reflective of the hard work of our Mass Communications faculty and their dedication to the success of our students.”

This is a great honor for Lincoln University to be represented in such a dynamic way at the NCA Convention and we thank Dr. Balaji and Dr. Gabbadon for all they do for Lincoln University within the Mass Communications Department.
