Lincoln University – Saturday, October 8, 2011, the National Association of Black Accountants, Inc. held its 36th Annual Eastern Region Student Conference. Each year the NABA elects a small amount of students to receive a scholarship due to their stellar academic achievement, initiative and resolve in pursing their goals. The association has given out scholarships totaling $54,000 in support of continued academic studies of students.
Lincoln University’s very own Ms. Melem Sie, a senior accounting major and president of the NABA Lincoln University Chapter, received a $2,000 scholarship from PNC Bank. Melem Sie has exhibited exceptional leadership as president of the student chapter of NABA at Lincoln University. She has helped the University solidify sponsorship and student networking opportunities with corporations, CPA firms, and government entities. She has organized a series of speaking engagements on campus with guest speakers from CPA firms such as Deloitte & Touche and Mitchell & Titus, as well as the IRS and Becker CPA review. She is currently organizing the NABA awards/networking and silent auction night at Lincoln University to be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 in the Student Union Building. She has accomplished this all while maintaining a 3.5 GPA in her major and a 3.44 GPA overall.
Professor Kennie Edwards accompanied Melem Sie to the conference and shared his sentiments about Ms. Melem Sie and her achievements. Professor Edwards stated, “In her position as president of NABA she has significantly increased the student membership on campus. She led a successful membership drive that resulted in a 100% increase in the Lincoln student attendance at the eastern region student conference.” Ms. Sie has achieved some remarkable accomplishments during her tenure at Lincoln University and her success and achievements are recognized.
