Dr. Murali BalajiLincoln University – Dr. Murali Balaji, Assistant Professor and Director of the Mass Communications Center of Excellence, will travel to Israel March 12 to 21 to speak at two universities about his research.

Balaji, whose work focuses on the cultural production of masculinity, has been invited to speak at a conference seminar at the University of Haifa and as a keynote at Tel Aviv University.  He was invited by scholars familiar with his research on political economy and the production of nationalistic masculinity in media representations.  Balaji, a visiting scholar this year at the University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg School, said he is honored by the opportunity.

“I am humbled by the chance to share my research at these distinguished institutions,” said Balaji, who was also recently selected as a Fulbright Specialist.  “It is also a tremendous opportunity to showcase what we do at Lincoln.”

Balaji’s visit was made possible in part by support from Lincoln and the Israel Consul General’s office.  He said he hopes his visit, in which he will interact with scholars from cities such as Tel Aviv, Haifa and Jerusalem, will help to create a pipeline between Lincoln and Israel.

“I owe a lot of thanks to the consul general and to the university, since they knew the significance of this visit,” he said.  “Hopefully, this helps to make Lincoln stand out as an international center of learning.”

Balaji hopes to create reciprocal relationship and bring more Israeli scholars to Lincoln to share their research.
