Mass Communications Center of Excellence Presents Dr. Matt McAllister

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA – Holding fast to the mission of preparing graduate school ready students, the Mass Communications Center of Excellence is continuing its pledge to introduce its majors to key members in the top 50 graduate schools.

On Wednesday, December 1, 2010, Dr. Matt McAllister, professor in the College of Communications at Penn State University will be speaking in the Science and High Technology Building, room 123 at 6:00 p.m.

He will be discussing advertiser and consumer criticism.

“Our students will thoroughly enjoy his presentation because he incorporates a lot of popular culture into his research,” said Murali Balaji, director of the Mass Communications Center of Excellence.

McAllister’s research interests include advertising criticism, popular culture, and the political economy of the mass media.
He is the author of “The Commercialization of American Culture: New Advertising, Control and Democracy” and the co-editor of “Comics and Ideology.”  He has also been published in such journals as “Critical Studies in Media Communication,” “Journal of Broadcasting & Electronic Media” and “Journal of Communication.”

He teaches mass media and society, cultural aspects of the mass media and the spring semester of the Ph.D. proseminar. In 2010, he was selected as a Penn State Alumni Teaching Fellow.

The event is free and open to the public.
