LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA. – Operation: Get Tested Presentation will be held in the Multi-Purpose Room of the Student Union Building at Lincoln University on Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. Operation: Get Tested provides youths with an opportunity to get tested free of charge. Lincoln University students are encouraged to get tested during this event.
Who’s Positive is a national non-profit organization dedicated to reducing the transmission of HIV among teens and young adults, a population with one of the fastest growing infection rates, through increased education and awareness.
According to the Center for Disease Control, half of all new HIV infections in the United States occur in people under the age of 25, and one-fourth in people under the age of 21. Who’s Positive strives to remind the public that HIV is a virus with no cure. By sharing the stories of young people living with HIV, Who’s Positive wants to eliminate the stigma associated with the disease by relating their experiences of HIV youths to their peers.
Six HIV-positive youths (ages 18-26) will be on the 48-day, nationwide bus tour traveling from New York to California to humanize HIV. The tour bus will stop at 35 high schools and colleges. It will end on World AIDS Day on December 1.
The 45-ft. Who’s Positive tour bus and speakers will be available for photos. Additionally, spokespeople touring for Who’s Positive also will be available for interviews.
