LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA ~ The Philadelphia Chapter of the Alumni Association of Lincoln University (AALU) will host the Fifth Annual Dr. Frank “Tick” Coleman Awards Luncheon at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2007 at the Holiday Inn Philadelphia Stadium in Philadelphia.
The luncheon celebrates outstanding alumni achievements and raises funds for student scholarships. Recipients of the award also have enthusiastically supported the University and the AALU. This year’s honorees include:
- Dr. Edward S. Cooper ’46, retired cardiologist and professor emeritus, University of Pennsylvania;
- Donald Hunt ’77, “The Philadelphia Tribune” sports editor & author;
- Rep. Cherelle L. Parker ’94, member of the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives, 200th Legislative District; and
- Sharman Lawrence MHS ’98, founder of the AALU Graduate Chapter.
Dr. Coleman ’35, affectionately known as "Mr. Lincoln University,” is a native Philadelphian who has advised and counseled young people for over 70 years. He created this luncheon to celebrate the history of Lincoln University and to recognize those alumni whose achievements bring honor to his alma mater.
Dr. Coleman was the first black quarterback on the Central High School Public League Championship teams in 1929 and 1930. Being one of the first three black scouts to earn the Eagle Scout Badge, the Boy Scouts of America has named a service award in his honor. He has made significant contributions to the Philadelphia community through his work with such organizations as the Christian St. YMCA, Salvation Army, Peace Corp, and the NAACP. Dr. Coleman also has received Lincoln University’s Outstanding Alumnus Award for his robust commitment to the university and his efforts as a member of its Board of Trustees.

The Philadelphia Chapter of Alumni Association of Lincoln University celebrates 40 years of dedicated, loyal and committed service to Lincoln University’s alumni in the Philadelphia area. The Alumni Association meets monthly at 7 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday at the Lincoln University Graduate Center, 3020 Market Street in Philadelphia.
Founded in 1854, Lincoln University is a premier, historically Black University that combines the best elements of a liberal arts and sciences-based undergraduate core curriculum and selected graduate programs to meet the needs of those living in a highly technological and global society. The University is nationally recognized as a major producer of African Americans with undergraduate degrees in the physical sciences (biology, chemistry and physics); computer and informational sciences; biological and life sciences. Lincoln has an enrollment of 2,423 undergraduate and graduate students.
