LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA ~ President Ivory V. Nelson told an overflow Manuel Rivero Hall crowd of students and parents at the Fall Open House that Lincoln University provides an inviting and nurturing environment that ensures success after graduation.
“Lincoln will be part of your educational experience where you will get a quality education and go out and do whatever you want to do,” Dr. Nelson said. “We are a family, and we want you to come here.”
Despite inclement weather, scores of prospective students and their parents attended the annual event, designed to showcase the university’s academic offerings and campus life. The capacity-full gymnasium listened to welcome speeches from administrators and student leaders and was treated to musical presentations from student organizations, including the newly formed marching band that is coming off an awarding-winning performance.
The high school students toured the campus and visited different academic departments.
For Alyss Rhedrick of West Philadelphia High School, first impression goes a long way.
“The information I received was valuable. Every open house means a lot to me,” Rhedrick said. “I like the enthusiasm that was displayed by the students and the administration.”
According to Mike Taylor, director of admissions, “The open house was a success. We were delighted to have students from many high schools on our campus, and we were extremely happy to see the excitement and enthusiasm the students showed towards their interest in Lincoln University.”
The open house ended with on-site admissions for students.
Founded in 1854, Lincoln University is a premier, historically Black University that combines the best elements of a liberal arts and sciences-based undergraduate core curriculum and selected graduate programs to meet the needs of those living in a highly technological and global society. The University is nationally recognized as a major producer of African Americans with undergraduate degrees in the physical sciences (biology, chemistry and physics); computer and informational sciences; biological and life sciences. Lincoln has an enrollment of 2,423 undergraduate and graduate students.
