The baccalaureate ceremony held for graduating seniors on May 9, 2014, served not only as an anticipatory ceremony being the last step towards graduation; but as a Students First Campaign booster as well. Thanks to the brothers of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and the Ezion-Fair Baptist Church of Wilmington, Delaware, Baccalaureate Service was taken to a new level.

The keynote speaker of the event was Rev. Dr. Christopher T. Curry. Curry, a 1992 Lincoln graduate, is the senior pastor of Ezion-Fair Baptist Church and the Grand Chaplain of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Prior to giving his address to the graduating class, Pastor Curry recognized that he had 20 minutes to speak and wanted to give three of those minutes to his fraternity brothers who were in attendance, specifically James “Scrap” Jordan ‘88 who is currently the Chief of Staff to their Fraternity’s Grand Basileus.

Jordan announced a $10,000 Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. donation to the Students First Campaign along with his own $10,000 matching contribution. That contribution sparked a chain reaction of giving.

“I was brought up never to go to church without and offering,” announced Rev. Curry, who then presented another $10,000 contribution on behalf of Ezion-Fair Baptist Church and then, a $5,000 personal contribution.

Judge Nathaniel C. Nickels of the Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. (Howard University) and the newest member of The Lincoln University’s Board of Trustees decided to match Curry’s $5,000 contribution.

At final count, the Students First Campaign received $40,000 in contributions for the evening.

The Students First Campaign was established to raise $6 million for merit-based student scholarships and $4 million for need-based student scholarships. We encourage all alumni to get on board and give their gift today. Please contact the Office of Institutional Advancement 484-365-7440.
