The Honorable Greg Mathis
Who: The Honorable Greg Mathis from the popular syndicated television program, “The Judge Mathis Show.”
What: Lecture featuring Judge Mathis. Talk will focus on his “gang- to-gavel” rise to a Detroit District Judge. Book-signing for his recently released book, Inner City Miracle, following the lecture.
When: Friday, March 14, 2003, 7 p.m.
Where: On the campus of Lincoln University at Manuel Rivero Hall (main gymnasium)
Details: The Honorable Greg Mathis will discuss what it takes for today’s students to be successful and why it is important to stay inspired and not allow life’s obstacles deter them from achieving their goals. His inspirational story of a young man who rose from delinquent to one of the nation’s most influential personalities is chronicled in his autobiography, Inner City Miracle, which was released in October 2002 by One World Books, a subsidiary of Random House. The book will be available at a reduced rate during a book-signing following the lecture. Admission is free to Lincoln University students, faculty and staff. Lincoln University, the nation’s first historically black university, is celebrating its sesquicentennial, or 150th anniversary, between April 2003 and May 2004. The University is nationally recognized as a major producer of African Americans with undergraduate degrees in the physical sciences (biology, chemistry and physics) as well as computer sciences.
Lincoln University also has the distinction of having two of its alumni, famed poet Langston Hughes’29 and Thurgood Marshall, the first black U.S. Supreme Court Justice ‘30, honored by the U.S. Postal Service with commemorative stamps.
