Langston Hughes Playwright Workshop: Character, Story and Scene

When: Thursday, June 20, 2019 to Sunday, June 23, 2019
Campus: All University

Al Simpkins & The Bushfire Theater of Performing Arts will host the Langston Hughes Playwright Workshop: Character, Story and Scene. The workshops are open to faculty, staff and especially students. Nightly readings are open to the LU community at 7 p.m. in the ICC. Free admission.

Learn how to turn your creative idea into a script. This workshop focuses on the craft of writing a stage play. Emphasis is on internal and external traits needed to build character, scene building and writing emotionally exciting dialogue.

The Langston Hughes Playwright Workshop is the only of its kind in the nation that represents a collaboration between a professional African American Theater company and a Historically Black College or University, fostering opportunities for the stories that give life to African American experiences. Of course, the Theater Company wanted to bring this opportunity again to the historic grounds where Langston hailed.

This is a flexible four-day workshop.

Lincoln University Students are especially invited to attend all workshops throughout the weekend as well as community readings that will be held nightly at 7:00 p.m. in the ICC Auditorium.

Register via Engage Lincoln Lions or contact the Office for Community Service and Engagement if you would also like to attend the Playwrights’ Workshops during the day, Friday June 21 & Saturday June 22.
