New Agreement Allows Qualified Delaware County Community College Students to Start as Juniors at Lincoln University

(Delaware & Chester Counties, PA)—At 1 p.m., Monday, November 30, the presidents of Delaware County Community College and Lincoln University will hold a virtual ceremony to officially sign a new agreement that will allow qualified students who graduate from the College to seamlessly transfer to the University with full junior standing and other benefits.

Known as a dual admission and core-to-core transfer agreement, the new agreement provides a prescribed pathway for the College’s Associate Degree in Science and Associate Degree in Arts graduates to transfer credits to Lincoln University, the nation’s first degree-granting Historically Black College and University. It is the first time the two higher education institutions have come together to sign a dual admission and core-to-core agreement. The virtual ceremony will feature Delaware County Community College President Dr. L. Joy Gates Black, Lincoln University President Dr. Brenda A. Allen, administrators from the two institutions and a student, who transferred credits from Delaware County Community College to Lincoln University, to share his personal experience.

While at Delaware County Community College, students will experience diverse learning environments, small class sizes, and relationships with faculty focused on students’ success. Upon transferring to Lincoln University, qualified students are eligible for guaranteed admission, waiver of Lincoln University's enrollment fee for Delaware County Community College students who submit the Intent to Enroll Form, and fixed-rate tuition based on the student’s first year at the University. Students opting to reside on campus will be required to pay the $75 residence life fee to secure housing.  Full-time students who qualify also will be eligible for a Lincoln University Lion Transfer Scholarship of up to $2,500.

“This agreement ensures affordable access to the high-quality, educational programs offered at both Delaware County Community College and Lincoln University. While all of our students may qualify, it will be especially beneficial for students from our Pennock’s Bridge Campus in West Grove, which is less than five miles from Lincoln University,” said Delaware County Community College President Dr. L. Joy Gates Black. The College’s Pennock’s Bridge Campus is located in the Chester County Technical College High School at 280 Pennock Bridge Road in West Grove. Lincoln University is located at 1570 Baltimore Pike in Chester County.

Students at Lincoln University experience a world-class liberal arts education that uses curricular and co-curricular opportunities as the vehicles for honing essential skills like critical thinking, speaking, writing, and problem-solving.

“A liberal arts education continues to be the most powerful educational approach to developing a strong intellect and interpersonal savvy,” said Lincoln University President Brenda A. Allen. “Students who matriculate from Delaware County Community College to Lincoln University will develop interpersonal skills like leadership, ethics, and teamwork and graduate ready to thrive in today’s economy, thus ensuring their long-term success.”

In order to participate in this new agreement, eligible students must first receive an associate degree in either Arts or Science at Delaware County Community College and meet all Lincoln University degree, major, and grade point average requirements. The University’s nursing and other major programs are not part of this new dual admission and core-to-core transfer agreement.
