All-American: Butler makes history

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – Lincoln University sophomore Glenn Butler, Jr. (Greenburgh, N.Y./White Plains) has made history.

The long jumper became the first Lincoln University track & field student-athlete to earn NCAA Division II All-American status as he placed fifth in the 2021 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships held at the Birmingham Crossplex.

"Glenn is a relative newcomer to the event and has only scratched the surface of his potential," said Lincoln University head track & field coach Roland Whiting. "It's a special moment to be our first Division II All-American, and we look forward to witnessing his continued growth."

Butler (Greenburgh, N.Y./White Plains) registered his scoring mark of 7.45 meters on his fourth jump. At the time the distance had him third in the event. However, two jumpers – in their final attempts of the event – exceeded his distance.

He was ninth of 10 jumpers with the mark of 6.87 meters after his first attempt. He moved to fourth at 7.42 meters on his second jump. After posting a distance of 7.25 meters to stay in fourth place, Butler reached his best mark of 7.45 meters.

The sophomore fouled on his fifth attempt and then posted the distance of 7.15 meters in his final attempt.

It was the culmination of a week of firsts for Butler as he was named Lincoln's first Division II USTFCCA Atlantic Region Field Athlete of the Year earlier this week.
