LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA – The Lincoln University baseball team dropped a pair of East Coast Conference games in Buffalo, NY to D'Youville Saturday, including the night cap in walk-off fashion.
GAME ONE: D'YOUVILLE 6, LINCOLN 2
Lincoln took the early lead with a pair of runs in the first inning as sophomore Jefry Azcona (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic) walked to open the game, stole second, and then sophomore Damaal Sands (Nassau, Bahamas/Montverde Academy (FL)) was hit. They both moved to scoring positions with a sacrifice bunt by junior Alex Jones (Bear Del./Appoquinimink).
Freshman Wesley Hogan (Washington, D.C./Maret) brought home the first run with a RBI groundout, and then Sands scored on a single by junior DeAndre Bowens (Rock Hill, N.Y./Monticello).
The Saints claimed the lead with three runs in the second, added an insurance run in the six, and two more in the eighth.
Azcona finished 2-for-4 with a double and triple, while junior Anthony Burgos (Bronx, N.Y./Mott Haven) and Bowens had two hits each.
Sophomore Luis Miguel Reinoso (Beltsville, Md./High Point) only allowed a pair of hits over five innings in allowing three unearned runs.
GAME TWO: D'YOUVILLE 7, LINCOLN 6
A one-out sacrifice fly in the seventh inning brought home Saints' winning run as Lincoln's comeback ultimately fell short.
After falling behind 6-1, the Lions embarked on their come back.
Jones started the rally with a two-out triple in the top of the sixth inning. Hogan singled home a run, and then the bases were loaded following a single by freshman Miguel Agramonte (Fallston, Md./Fallston) and walk to Bowen. Senior CarVonte Williams (Cleveland, Ohio/Twinsburg) singled home a pair of runs and then Bowens pulled Lincoln to within a run on a throwing error.
Hogan was in the middle of another run, bringing home the tying run with a two-out single. He finished 3-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI.
Freshman Sebastian Iguaran (Port Orange, Fla./Spruce Creek) was 2-for-4 with a run scored, Jones was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, and Williams was 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Freshman Connor Jones took the loss in relief, allowing one earned run in 1 2/3 innings.
Lincoln returns to action 3 p.m. Friday with a nine-inning game against St. Thomas Aquinas to begin a three-game ECC series.
