LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA - For the second time in a month, junior Zahrion Blue (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) has been honored by the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
He was named the CIAA Food Lion Player of the Week as the forward helped lead the Lions to an unbeaten week. Blue capped the week with a pair of free throws to give him 1,001 career points. Blue earned CIAA Food Lion Defensive Player of the Week on November 22.
"Good things happen to good people, who put their team ahead of their personal goals," said Lincoln University head coach Corey Lowery. "From the beginning, Zahrion is a guy that has accepted the challenge of defending the best scorer. He is focused on doing whatever his team needs to win. If that means scoring, defending, passing, or just encouraging, Zahrion will do what is needed."
Blue averaged 23 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists as Lincoln opened CIAA action with wins over Johnson C. Smith and reigning conference champion Winston-Salem State. In the victory over WSSU, Blue pulled down an offensive rebound off a missed free throw with six seconds remaining as LU clung to a one-point lead. He drilled both free throws to provide the margin of victory.
In the opening game of the week, Blue tallied 30 points with eight rebounds to knock off Johnson C. Smith.
Lincoln (9-3 overall, 2-0 CIAA), on a five-game winning streak, will have a two-week hiatus before returning to the hardwood 5:30 p.m. January 6 at Fayetteville State.
