LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA – Fifth-year senior Bryanna Brown (New York, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) turned in a career performance as the Lincoln University women's basketball team went on the road for the first time this season and came away with the 73-68 over Charleston in non-conference action Saturday at the H. Bernard Wehrle Arena, Charleston, W. Va.
Brown finished with her first career double-double with 27 points and 11 rebounds – both career highs for the guard. With the 27 points, she is now two points away from reaching 1,000 points in her Division II career. More than half of her points came from the foul line as she was 14-of-14 from the charity stripe while shooting 5-of-13 from the field.
On the glass, eight of her rebounds came on the defensive end.
An 11-2 run that spanned the end of the third quarter and beginning of the fourth pushed Lincoln into the lead for the first time since one minute into the second quarter. The spurt was the culmination of a comeback that began with the Lions trailing by a game-high 11 points with 6:38 left in the third quarter.
Brown started the march back into the game with seven straight points to get the ball of momentum rolling. While the home-standing Eagles temporarily stemmed the tide, the aforementioned run, highlighted by four different players finding the scoresheet – enabled the Lions to play from ahead.
Four ties and three lead changes in the fourth quarter alone was a microcosm of a game that featured 11 ties and seven lead changes. The final lead change came via a pair of free throws by freshman Jaleesa Lanier (Easton, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) with 1:43 remaining.
From there, Brown brought home the victory. Following her eighth defensive board of the game, she assisted on a bucket that gave Lincoln a three-point lead and then sunk four consecutive free throws to secure the win.
Lanier and freshman De'aisjah Somerville (Norfolk, Va./Lake Taylor) came off the bench to score nine points in 17 minutes.
Lincoln returns home 2 p.m. December 4, hosting Jefferson in non-conference action at Manuel Rivero Gymnasium.
