LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA - Defense wins championships, and the Lincoln University women's basketball team put the championship-level defense on display in completing the season sweep of rival-Bowie State Saturday.
Lincoln limited to the Bulldogs to just 10 points total over the second and third quarters in posting the 61-36 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association action. The win snapped Bowie's four-game winning streak and the Lions opened up a two-game lead over BSU in the North Division standings.
After scoring the last seven points of the second quarter, the Lions kept their paws on the gas pedal in the quarter. By the time, they let off the gas – the run was finished at 25-2 – and the lead was 24 points with 27 seconds remaining.
In the faithful third quarter, Lincoln forced 10 turnovers and held BSU to 0-of-4 from the field in outscoring its guest 20-3 in the 10-minute segment.
Lincoln forced the Bulldogs into 30 turnovers which led to 24 points, and 26 total fast-break points. The Lions pounded the glass for 11 offensive rebounds, leading to 12 second-chance points.
Fifth-year senior Bryanna Brown (New York, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) led a trio of double-figure scorers with 19 points to go along with five rebounds and three assists. Junior Jade Young (Philadelphia, Pa./Abington Friends School) added 14 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, and six steals, while fifth-year senior Joy Morton (Yeadon, Pa./Penn Wood) contributed 11 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and a steal.
