Lincoln University, Pa. - Thanks to a grant, two students from Lincoln University traveled to Indonesia for a short-term summer immersion program with all expenses covered.

Chisom Ihejirika, a senior political science and accounting major from Oxford, and Doneisha Steele, a senior engineering science major from Newark, Delaware, along with accounting professor Kennie Edwards, took part in the 12-day program that combined academic, corporate, and cultural experiences to expose students to doing business in Indonesia.
Ihejirika, who plans a career in corporate law, said as a result of the business meeting, he learned that “religion likely plays a major role in how the legal system operates in this country” and that the trip helped him “understand how people are expected to behave regarding interpersonal relationships and fair transactions.”
The cost of the program, including a 3-credit summer course, was fully covered by the Center for International Business Education and Research. Temple University’s Fox School of Business is one of 17 host institutions of the national CIBER program created by Congress to serve as a resource for education to improve U.S competitiveness in international markets for both students and the business community. Constance Lundy, director of Lincoln’s International Programs and Services, worked with CIBER and Temple to secure the study abroad funding for Lincoln.
According to the CIBER website, the goal of the program is to have students develop an awareness of the interconnected nature of the global economy and to enhance students’ perspectives on, and sensitivity to, other cultures and business practices.

The Lincoln students, along with several students from Temple University, visited Jakarta and Yogyakarta from May 22–June 3. Led by Temple Professor Omario Kanji, students participated in corporate visits with Google, Cosmopolitan, Ogilvy and Mather, Catalyst Consulting, Danone, Gameloft and the Department of Commerce’s U.S. Commercial Service. Students engaged in several cultural experiences such as to the National Monument, National Museum, and the Borobudur Temple.
This immersion opportunity is part of the 3-credit course “Doing Business in a Foreign Country” that included four class meetings before travel in April and May.
