Johnson Wins 800 as Lions Place Fourth at Collegeville Classic

Collegeville, Pa. - Kyuande Johnson (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) won the men's 800 meter run as the Lincoln University men's indoor track and field team placed fourth at the 2019 Collegeville Classic, hosted by Ursinus College on Saturday.

The Lions finished with 42 points, placing them fourth amongst the 24 teams competing at the event, eight points behind third place Moravian College.  The Lions were the top Division II finisher at the event which was won by Virginia Wesleyan with 61 points.
 
Eight top ten finishes and four personal bests including Johnson's first place finish highlighted the Lions performance over the course of the meet.   Johnson's time of 1:56.00 was in indoor personal best and is the second fastest time run by a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) 800 meter runner this indoor season.  Teammate Derek Pouncey (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial (Nassau CC)) placed ninth with a personal best time of 2:08.24
 
Over in the field events, the Lions produced three top-four finishes; two of those came in the long jump competition where freshman Jaylen Sanders (North Las Vegas, Nev./Centennial) leaped to a personal-best mark of 6.65 meters (21'10") and a second place finish.  His jump moved him into sixth position on the CIAA's Indoor performance list for the season. Reginald Mays (Hanover, Md./Franklin (Frostburg)) jumped 6.47 meters (21' 2¾") to place fourth in the event. Solomon Potter(Williamstown, N.J./Timber Creek) placed third in the shot put competition with a throw of 14.35 meters (47'1")
 
Sanders also ran the third leg of Lincoln's 4 x 400 meter relay team that placed second with a time of 3:33.77.  Johnson ran the opening leg, followed by Abdulazeez Idowu (Capitol Heights, Md./Fairmont Heights (Hood College)), Sanders and Myles Coston (Philadelphia, Pa./G.W. Carver E & S) who ran the anchor leg.
 
Lincoln's second 4 x 400 team of Tyreke Thompson (Capitol Heights, Md./Fairmont Heights)Cameron Beale (Glen Mills. Pa./Garnet Valley)Vanderson Jean-Charles (Laurel, Del./Laurel) and Pouncey placed sixth with a time of 3:42.98.
 
Coston also recorded a fourth place finish in the 60-meter dash earlier in the day with a personal best time of 7.10 seconds.
 
The men's track and field team returns to action on Saturday, January 26, 2019 when they compete at the John Covert Classic,   hosted by Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
