This event, which is part of Lincoln’s commitment to support co-curricular activities and contribute to the cultural life of the community, will include an inspiring pre-show featuring the Lincoln University Concert Choir, the LU Men’s Ensemble, and a brief report on the Compassion Corps’ significant progress in partnership with Liberian leaders, who are working to address hunger, poverty, injustice, ignorance, and sickness through a variety of interventions. In the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the corps will be offering unique opportunities to get personally involved in service to others who are in great need in Africa.
Compassion Corps, which is headquartered in Chester Heights, Delaware County, has partnered with many local churches and civic groups over the past 12 years to care for the poor and afflicted in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Over the past four years, a series of benefit concerts by the highly acclaimed Philadelphia Boys Choir has raised funds that were invested in projects serving war and Ebola-ravaged Liberia. Accomplishments there have included: construction of primary schools in Monrovia and White Plains; a children’s village for 70 orphans; a maternity annex and provision of urgently needed equipment & medications for a partner clinic; installation of pure water wells and water systems in four locations; vocational training and business start-ups (including revival of the Liberian coffee market); and professional training for hundreds of Liberian educators and health workers.
All proceeds from this year’s concert will be used to complete a new school project, as well as ongoing student sponsorships and orphan care in Liberia.
The Philadelphia Boys Choir’s concert will include some of its most-loved standard and classical choral pieces, as well as highlights from its winter season repertoire. Guests will also be able to bid at the popular “Auction for Africa” and to shop at a little African marketplace that will feature: handcrafts from the Compassion Corps’ partner countries; rare Timbuktu ancient bead jewelry; and bags of the corps’ delicious Cup of Compassion Coffee.
