Lincoln University Student Athletes continue to excel in the classroom as a total of four Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) programs earned the CIAA's Highest Team GPA award for the 2017-18 season.

The four teams that earned the CIAA's highest academic honor were men's cross country, men's indoor track and field, women's indoor track and field and cheerleading.  In addition to the four CIAA honors, Lincoln's women's soccer team, who competed as an independent last season achieved a cumulative team g.p.a. of 3.31 and will be in line for their second consecutive United Soccer Coaches Association Team Academic Award.

"We place a high emphasis on academic achievement and to know that our teams excelled with high marks which led to a co-lead in the CIAA with the most teams to achieve this mark this year is a true honor," said Lincoln Athletic Director  Harry Stinson.  "We want to be Champions on the field but that first begins with being champions in the classroom.  Our hats go off to our students and coaching staff for their academic achievement."

The 2017-18 season marked the first time any Lincoln squad was awarded the CIAA Highest Team G.P.A. Award.  The Lions four awards ties them with Virginia Union for the most won by a conference institution during the recently completed academic year.

The men's cross country team had a team g.p.a. of 3.358 while the women's and men's indoor track and field teams recorded team g.p.a.'s of 3.279 and 3.163 respectively.  The cheerleading squad had a team g.p.a. of 3.188.  The complete list of CIAA schools honored is list at the end of this article.

A total of 70 student-athletes had a semester g.p.a. of 3.3 or better, earning Dean's List honors while nearly half of all student-athletes, 116 total, earned a 3.0 or better g.p.a. for the spring term.
