Mass Communications Week Events Bring Industry Notables to Campus

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – The fourth annual 2017 Mass Communications Week  will bring several notable media industry guests to campus including television show host Quincy Harris and, WGAL television’s Ron Martin from March 20-24.

Each year, the Department of Mass Communications and the Media Center collaborate to expose students to industry professionals, internship opportunities, and career advice in preparation for their future endeavors beyond the classroom. The purpose of the week-long activities is to inform and engage members of Lincoln University and its surrounding community with guest speakers, professional panels, workshops, and student presentations related to the fields of communications.

This year’s theme is “Positioning for Power:  Finding Your Voice and Platform.” The week begins on Monday, March 20 with an information session for students considering majoring or minoring in mass communications. Students also have the opportunity to have professional headshots taken and attend panel sessions to hear tips from graduating students and alumni.

On Tuesday, Ron Martin visits campus and the day caps off with a business fashion show. On Wednesday Cherri Gregg, the KYW community affairs reporter and speaker Victoria Neidigh, the vice president of strategic initiatives at Comcast NBC Universal both visit campus.

On Thursday, in addition to an iHeart Radio site visit, three guest speakers will share their industry knowledge. Quincy Harris, former host of WTXF Fox 29’s Good Day Philadelphia and current host of the television show, The Q, will speak at 2 p.m.

Mia Jackson, a graduate of the University of Georgia Mass Communications Department, and photographer Ransom Rockwood, will speak at 5 p.m and 6 p.m., respectively. Thursday’s activities end with the Haiti Awareness Benefit to which all are invited and asked to bring a $1.00 donation for those in Haiti who are in need.

The week concludes on Friday with student-led tours of the Media Center.

Mass Communications Week was established in 2014 by Jamila A. Cupid, a mass communications assistant professor, with the support of Carmen Manning-Miller, former chair of the Department of Mass Communications, as a set of programs to serve students in alignment with the department and university's missions and goals.
