LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA - The Lincoln University men's basketball partakes in one of the most historic rivalries as the Lions travel to Cheyney for The Battle of the First. Lincoln is looking to get back on the winning side of the scoreboard as they play 6 p.m. Tuesday.
SERIES HISTORY
Lincoln has dominated the recent history of this historic game, dubbed The Battle of the First. The Lions are on a nine-game winning streak, and has never lost a game at Cheyney. In the last 13 meetings, Lincoln leads 9-4. Three of the four losses came as this game was played on a neural court.
MR. TWO-WAY
Junior Zahrion Blue (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) leads the team, and is third in the CIAA, averaging 18.6 points per game. While his impact on the team offensively is tangible by actual numbers, his impact on the other end of the court may be more important.
He has been tasked with slowing down the other team's top scoring threat. For those efforts, he has already earned CIAA Defensive POW this season. He is currently third in the conference with 8.3 rebounds, sixth with 3.0 assists, and sixth in assist to turnover ratio.
UP AND DOWN
Lincoln has yet to have a streak, winning or losing, this season. They have followed each win this season with a loss. The Lions are coming off a non-conference loss to Jefferson Saturday.
STICKY FINGERS
Junior point guard Korey Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y./LaSalle Academy) leads the CIAA with 16 steals (2.3 per game) in seven contests, while Zahrion Blue (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) is fifth with 1.6 steals per game.
SHARE THE WEALTH
Junior point guard Korey Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y./LaSalle Academy) leads the team and is fourth in the conference with 3.6 assists per game. As the team, the Lions are sixth in the 12-team CIAA with 12.38 assists per game.
SLOW START
Junior sharpshooter Bernard Lightsey (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) is off to a slow start this season. Lightsey is fourth on the team in scoring with 9.5 points per game. He is only third on the team in shot attempts. The Philadelphia native takes 61 percent of his shots from beyond the arc, making 40.0 (18-of-44) percent. He ranks third in the league in made three-pointers.
RESERVE CONTRIBUTIONS
Through the first five games, the Lions were relying heavily on its starting five as freshman Bakir Cleveland (Newark, N.J. /University) was the only consistent scorer coming off the bench. In the last game against Jefferson, three different players - Cleveland, Isaiah Miles (Brandywine, Md./Gwynn Park), and Janaie Coates (Newark, N.J./University) - came off the bench to score double digits.
