LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA - Lincoln University men's basketball welcomes Holy Family to Manuel Rivero 8 p.m. Wednesday for the Lions' home opener.
SERIES HISTORY
Lincoln trails the all-time series, 1-5, with its lone victory coming in 2008. The Lions have lost four straight to the Tigers.
ALL-CIAA
Juniors Bernard Lightsey (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) and Zahrion Blue (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) earned preseason All-CIAA honors in a vote by head coach and sports information personnel. Lightsey earned backcourt recognition, while Blue earned honors in the frontcourt.
PRESEASON POLL
Lincoln was picked to finish fifth in the conference's North Division. Bowie State was picked to win the division, followed by Virginia State, Virginia Union, Elizabeth City, Lincoln, and Shaw. In the South Division, Fayetteville State was the preseason favorite, followed by Winston-Salem State, Johnson C. Smith, Claflin, Livingston, and Saint Augustine's.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE
After recording just three double-doubles over his first three-plus seasons, senior Jordan Camper (Chester, Pa./Chester) started the season with back-to-back double-doubles in the CIAA/PSAC Challenge. The forward kicked off the season with 26 points and 13 rebounds and came back with a 17-point, 11-rebound effort on Saturday.
SUPER FROSH
Freshman Bakir Cleveland (Newark, N.J. /University) opened the season with two straight double-digit scoring games and is averaging 14.5 points per game on 40 percent shooting. He dropped a career-high 17 points in Saturday's loss to West Chester.
SLOW START
Junior sharpshooter Bernard Lightsey (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) is off to a slow start this season, mainly due to foul trouble. He is averaging just 25.5 minutes per game and has picked up seven total fouls. Lightsey is averaging just nine points per game on 33 percent shooting (5-of-15). However, he is still very proficient from beyond the arc, making 5-of-8 (62.5 percent).
FREE THROWS
Through two games, Lincoln has only TAKEN 46 free throws, while its opponents have MADE 45 free throws. The Lions are shooting 67.4 percent (31-of-46) and their opponents are shooting 77.6 percent (45-of-58).
GLASSWORK
Finishing defensive possessions with rebounds are imperative to Lincoln's goal of holding teams to just 60 points per game. However, through two games, the Lions have yielded 40 offensive rebounds, leading to 46 second-chance points. In Saturday's loss to West Chester, the Golden Rames recorded 22 offensive boards for 30 second-chance points.
