MBB Preview: Livingstone

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA - Lincoln University men's basketball team opens Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association tournament action 6 p.m. Thursday, playing Livingstone at the Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore.

TOURNAMENT HISTORY
Lincoln comes into the 2022 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament with just one win in 10 games. The Lions' lone victory came in the 2015 tournament, a 67-65 win over Winston-Salem State. 

This is the second meeting between the two teams in the tournament with the Bears posting the 83-69 win in 2015.

MR. TWO-WAY
Junior Zahrion Blue (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) was named the CIAA Player of the Year, marking the first Lincoln men's basketball player to receive the honor. He joins women's basketball player Bryanna Brown, who was named the CIAA Women's Basketball Player of the Year.

He leads the CIAA in scoring with 18.9 points per game. He has scored at least 15 points in 24 of the team's 27 games, including 15 times of at least 20 points. Earlier this year, Blue reached 1,000 career points. 

He is currently fourth in the conference with 7.4 rebounds and ninth with 2.7 assists. Blue recently moved into fourth-place all-time on the LU scoring list. 

SUPER FROSH I
Freshman guard Bakir Cleveland (Newark, N.J. /University) earned a spot on the five-member All-CIAA Rookie Team. He finished third on the team in scoring with 9.7 points per game. He adds 39 assists, 18 steals, and is averaging 2.7 rebounds. 

WINDEX MEN
Lincoln is one of the top rebounding teams in the CIAA, leading the league with 39.8 rebounds per game. They also lead the league with 14.7 offensive rebounds and is second with 25.1 defensive rebounds. The 14.7 offensive boards are tied for third nationally. 

The Lions are second in rebounding margin, outrebounding their opponents by 6.1 boards per game. Two players - Alex Nunnally (Washington, D.C./Cesar Chavez Parkside) (9th, 6.5 rpg) and Blue (4th, 7.4 rpg) - are ranked in the top 10 of the conference. 

SUPER FROSH II
Freshman point guard Reggie Hudson (Bronx, N.Y./St. Raymond's) is growing into his role with the Lions. Since being inserted into the starting lineup, Lincoln is 11-4. He leads the team with 85 assists and 38 steals. 

In conference action, Hudson is fourth on the team with 8.6 points with 58 assists, 47 rebounds and 26 steals. 

HIGH OCTANE
The Lincoln University men's basketball team is third in the CIAA with 74.4 points per game. The Lions are one of six conference teams with a positive scoring margin, third in the league, outscoring teams by 4.4 points per game. 

DEFENSE
The Lions thrives on defense to hold their opponents to 60 points or less. Lincoln has held eights opponents to 60 points or less, and is 7-1 in those contests.

Lincoln is also fourth in defensive field goal percentage, holding teams to just 41.8 percent from the field. 

ATTENDANCE
Fans are showing up to Manuel Rivero this season as Lincoln leads the CIAA in home attendance, averaging 977 fans. It could play a huge role in Lincoln's 7-3 home record this season.
