LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA - A must-win game is on tap 7:30 p.m. Wednesday as the Lincoln University men's basketball team hosts Northern Division leader Shaw.
SERIES HISTORY
Lincoln has lost five of the 16 total meetings between the two schools, including an 86-80 loss in the last game at Rivero Gym.
MR. TWO-WAY
Junior Zahrion Blue (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) leads the team, and is second in the CIAA, averaging 19.5 points per game. He has scored at least 15 points in 17 of the team's 18 games, including 10 times of at least 20 points. Earlier this year, Blue reached 1,000 career points.
He is currently eighth in the conference with 6.7 rebounds, sixth with 2.9 assists, and third in assist to turnover ratio.
KEY CIAA GAME
Lincoln is entering must-win category in its quest to claim the CIAA North Division crown. The Lions have lost two of three games in the division, while Shaw comes into the game unbeaten within the division. A loss to Shaw will leave Lincoln three games out of first place.
WINDEX MEN
Lincoln is one of the top rebounding teams in the CIAA, leading the league with 14.8 offensive rebounds and is sixth with 24.2 defensive rebounds. The 14.8 offensive boards are fifth nationally.
The Lions are second in rebounding margin, outrebounding their opponents by 5.1 boards per game. Two players - Alex Nunnally (Washington, D.C./Cesar Chavez Parkside) (5th, 7.8 rpg) and Blue (eighth, 6.7 rpg) - are ranked in the top 10 of the conference.
HIGH OCTANE
The Lincoln University men's basketball team is second in the CIAA with 76.1 points per game. The Lions are one of five conference teams with a positive scoring margin, second in the league, outscoring teams by 5.8 points per game.
DEFENSE
The Lions thrives on defense with the goal of holding its opponents to 60 points or less. As Lincoln has won eight of its nine games, the team has held five opponents to 60 points or less. The Lions are allowing 63.8 points over the last nine games.
Prior to the aforementioned streak, Lincoln held just one of its first eight opponents under 60 points. Over the first eight games, the Lions were yielding 75.6 points per game.
Lincoln is also third in defensive field goal percentage, holding teams to just 41.3 percent from the field.
ATTENDANCE
Fans are showing up to Manuel Rivero this season as Lincoln is second in the CIAA in home attendance, averaging 793 fans. It could play a huge role in Lincoln 6-1 home record this season. The lone loss, a 78-74 decision to Shepherd, came in the home opener.
