LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA — Lincoln University’s inaugural residential academic success coaches, Tyler Kearney- Good and Jonathan Harris, launched a resource pantry in Lorraine Hansberry Hall on Tuesday March 15, 2022 and Frederick Douglass Hall on Thursday March 17, 2022.
As an extension to the Wellness Center food pantry, these residence hall pantries will supply students with a variety of supplies including food, drinks, contraceptives, hygiene products, books, masks, and school supplies without having to leave their own hall. Additionally, students are invited to submit suggestions for new items to be added to the pantry.
Drake Smith, a freshman, political science major, and president of Frederick Douglass Hall from Odenton, Maryland, said, “This pantry helps lessen some of the burdens that college can bring. This will help our residents discreetly get the essential resources they need.” Makenzie Hanks, a freshman, political science major, and president of Lorraine Hansberry Hall from Los Angeles, California, said, “I like that there’s resources in the dorm now especially in a freshman one because we have no cars. I also could see the thought they really put into this because I’ve seen them working on it these past few weeks.”
In an article by the American Psychological Association (APA), “more than a 1/3 of college students in the United States lack enough to eat and stable housing.” The resource pantry will be one of many more initiatives put in place to help students feel more comfortable and be successful at Lincoln University.
For community members who wish to donate supplies to the resource pantries, contact Jonathan Harris (jharris@lincoln.edu) and Tyler Kearney-Good (tkearneygood@lincoln.edu) for more information.
