LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA – For the first time in school history, members of the Lincoln University softball team have earned postseason honors from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, the conference announced today (Monday, May 2, 2022).
Freshman MacKienzee Rasheed (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills) and Irlynn Richardson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) were named to the CIAA All-Rookie Team.
"It was a pleasure to watch both Irlynn and MacKienzee perform this season," said Renee Clarke, Lincoln University head softball coach. "Both have set the bar high for the Lincoln softball student-athletes in the future. They have helped us build a solid foundation from which we will be successful in the future. I am humbled and proud to have coached them."
Richardson finished with 39 hits, establishing a new record during Lincoln's Division II era. She slashed .382/.447/.451 on the season while finishing in the top 10 of Lincoln's single-season record book in four other categories. She is second in stolen bases (23), third in runs scored (23), fifth in batting average (.382), and fifth in walks (10).
She finished third in the CIAA with 23 stolen bases and was sixth in the conference with 39 hits. Defensively, Richardson led the league with 64 assists.
A true utility player for the Lions, Rasheed started in six different positions – left field, right field, third base, second base, first base, and catcher. She slashed .290/.324/.370 on the season and finished in the top 10 of Lincoln's single-season record book in three categories. She was tied for third in home runs (2), fifth in hits (29), and seventh in RBI (17).
Rasheed finished seventh in the CIAA in putouts (125) and total chances (137) and was tenth in the CIAA - second on the team - with a .972 fielding percentage.
In what can be term as a transformational season, Lincoln tied for the most CIAA wins in school history with five on the season. Five different players found themselves ranked in the top 10 of Lincoln's D2-era single-season record book.
