Softball falls to Mars Hill

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA – The Lincoln University softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games to Mars Hills at Mars Hills, NC on Monday.


GAME ONE: Mars Hill 12, Lincoln 0
Freshman Irlynn Richardson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) recorded the lone Lincoln hit, a first inning single, as Lincoln dropped the first game 12-0.
 
It was another big inning aided by a few miscues that led to the loss. A pair of errors in the second inning allowed Mars Hill to put a 10-spot on the board to open up an 11-0 lead.
 
Junior Amaya Townsend (Port Jervis, N.Y./Port Jervis), 0-2, took the loss, allowing just one earned run – eight total – on seven hits in 1.1 innings. Freshman Cate Liskey (Richland, Pa./Eastern Lebanon ) hurled 2.2 innings of relief, allowing four runs – one earned – on six hits with a pair of strikeouts and two walks.


GAME TWO: Mars Hill 12, Lincoln 1
Freshman Tia Brown (Newark, N.Y./Newark) had the lone RBI with one of the team's three hits in the 12-1 loss. She had a two-out single, scoring freshman Aniyah Isaac (New Brunswick, N.J./New Brunswick) from second.
 
Isaac registered a hit and Townsend slugged a double to round out the hits for Lincoln.
 
Brown, 0-3, took the loss – allowing 10 runs, seven earned, on six hits over three innings.
 
Lincoln (0-6) continues its trip with a pair of non-conference games at Coker noon Tuesday.
