LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – Lincoln University student leaders attended a national institute for student leaders from May 31 to June 5 in Savannah, Georgia, on the campus of Savannah State University.
In its 21st year, the six-day Student Leadership Institute hosted by the National Association of Student Affairs Professionals provides an intensive, interactive, and stimulating learning program designed for newly elected HBCU student leaders who are committed to uplifting their organizations and their university. Lincoln University has participated for more than 10 years.

Gionelly Mills, president of Student Government Association, expressed his appreciation to the University for supporting the trip and said the experience was a collective contribution to the growth and development of the executive board.
“From strategic planning, to fortifying bonds with ambassadors from other HBCUs across the nation, we were able to see so many different styles of leadership,” Mills said. “Basking in the presence of Black Excellence was also not only awe-inspiring, but served to reinforce the standard to which we hold one another.”
Representing the Student Government Association were Mills; Nijewel Holliday, vice president of internal affairs; Kiara Leath, vice president of external affairs; Gabriel Nah, treasurer; Elisabeth Bellevue, secretary; Darriyante Johnson, president pro tempore; and Ramona Plummer, chief of staff. Mister and Miss Lincoln University, Tomell Harbison and Nile Garner, also represented Lincoln University.
Two staff members accompanied the students: Ihsan Mujahid ’02, director of the Office of Student Life & Development, who has served on the institute’s steering committee for two years, and Tiffani Brown, SGA advisor and coordinator in the Office of Student Life & Development.

Mujahid said the institute is “an amazing opportunity for our student leaders to not only learn and grow in their preparedness for the year to come, but they have the opportunity to meet leaders from HBCUs across the US that they can network with for years to come. This institute offers the opportunity for leaders to share ideas and solve issues that may arise at many of their institutions.”
NASAP works with student affairs professionals who serve at Historically Black Colleges and Universities and professionals who serve minority populations in diverse settings around the country on issues, solutions, and professional development opportunities.
The SGA and Division of Student Affairs provided funding for SGA leaders to attend the institute, while Student Life and Development provided funding for Mister and Miss Lincoln. Student Life and Development also provided funding for business and professional attire.
