The purpose of the Institute is to stimulate interest in and create awareness of career opportunities that exist in the transportation industry.
The STI program, sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, is open to students attending public and private secondary schools in the tri-state region. The Institute is an extremely intense and structured learning opportunity for youth in the secondary school systems in Pennsylvania and nearby states.
The curriculum will expose students to all modes of transportation and adventures such as highway design, transportation of people and cargo, inter-modal transport systems, laws, regulations, safety, security, and career opportunities.
