LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the TD Charitable Foundation has awarded $10,000 to the Lincoln University Student Emergency Fund to help students return to school and continue their education.

TD Bank through its charitable giving arm, the TD Charitable Foundation, supports not-for-profit institutions and their important work throughout our region.

Reflecting on the importance and potential impact of this funding, Lincoln University President Brenda Allen said, “For every $1,000 we can offer a student in grant aid we increase the likelihood that they will graduate by about 20 percent.”

The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated or uncovered pre-existing challenges among students. The TD Charitable Foundation funding will support students with one-time grants of up to $1,000 to help alleviate barriers that jeopardize their continuous enrollment, such as their ability to pay tuition, travel to and from school, and access the internet.

In awarding the funding to Lincoln, Shelley Sylva, who is head of social impact in the Foundation’s Office of Community and Charitable Giving, said “We believe that organizations such as yours play a significant role in sustaining vibrant and thriving communities.”

The TD Charitable Foundation grant will work in concert with the University’s recently established The Student Emergency Fund for Critical Needs. This fund was created with the intent of providing one-time financial assistance to students experiencing financial difficulty as a result of the pandemic or other extraordinary unplanned occurrences. Along with the establishment of this fund, the institution launched a campaign to solicit support from alumni and friends. These funds will be used to assist students with financial and technical support as they resume their education.
