LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. - The Lincoln University volleyball team begins a stretch of three consecutive home games as the Lions host Mercy College 6 p.m. Thursday at Manuel Rivero Gymnasium.
TEAMS: Lincoln is coming off three straight-set losses, while Mercy (2-6) enters on a four-match losing streak. Both teams fell to Goldey-Beacom in straight sets, while Lincoln lost to Shepherd in straight sets and Mercy fell to Shepherd 3-1.
PLAYERS: Freshman Haley Loper (Middletown, Del./St. Georges Technical) (Middletown, Del.) is coming off a season-high eight kills in the loss to Goldey-Beacom Tuesday. She currently leads the team with 15 kills on 48 attempts with 12 errors. Junior Kaiya Lewis (Queens, N.Y./Queens Preparatory Academy) (Queens, N.Y.) is second on the team with 10 kills with a team-high hitting percentage of .227. She also leads the team with eight blocks.
Freshmen Mariah Webster (Detroit, Mich. ) (Detroit, Mich.) and Jaida Lumpkin (Middletown, Del./Middletown) (Middletown, Del.) have combined for 30 of the team's 64 digs, while Lumpkin has teamed with junior Tatyana Charles (Easton, Pa./Eastern Area) (Easton, Pa.) to record 36 of the team's 40 assists.
Lumpkin also has six of the team's nine service aces.
Mercy is led offensively by Larissa Schneid, who has 87 kills (2.9 per set), and Nilka Rivera Maldonado, who has 80 kills (2.75 per set). Yarianne Gonzalez has 266 assists and 108 digs to lead the team in both categories.
SERIES HISTORY: This marks the first meeting between the two schools in volleyball.
