LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. - The Lincoln University volleyball team opens Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) action 6 p.m. Thursday, hosting Shaw University at Manuel Rivero Gymnasium.
TEAMS: Lincoln comes into the match looking for its first win of the season, while Shaw (1-4) is coming off back-to-back losses to Mount Olive. The Bears' lone win of the season was a straight-set victory over Saint Augustine's.
PLAYERS: Reigning Tones of Melanin Player of the Week Kaiya Lewis (Queens, N.Y./Queens Preparatory Academy) has been a force at the net with 23 kills on 53 attempts for a team-high .208 hitting percentage. She also leads the team with 15 blocks, while freshman Haley Loper (Middletown, Del./St. Georges Technical) leads the team with 24 kills.
Freshman Jaida Lumpkin (Middletown, Del./Middletown) and junior Tatyana Charles (Easton, Pa./Eastern Area) have combined for 69 of the team's 81 assists. Lumpkin leads the team with nine service aces and second with 24 digs. Freshman Mariah Webster (Detroit, Mich./Cass Tech) leads the team with 38 digs.
Junior Paige Worden leads the Bears with 38 kills on 121 attempts, while freshman Kamille Patrick has 33 kills on 81 attempts. Patrick boasts a team-high .235 hitting percentage. Junior Breelyn Clark has dished out 110 of the team's 122 assists.
SERIES HISTORY: Lincoln is 2-12 all-time against the Bears with seven straight losses, six of them were of the straight-set variety.
