Volleyball loses in CIAA finale

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA  – The Lincoln University volleyball team suffered a straight-set loss (25-6, 25-19, 25-17) to Shaw Monday in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association action at CC Spauldig Gym in Raleigh, NC.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Shaw tallied 16 of the first 20 points en route to the first set victory.
  • Unfazed by the first set, the Lions battled Shaw throughout the second set and led 17-15. Unfortunately, the Bears scored eight of the final nine points to secure the victory.
  • Lincoln fell behind early in the third set as SU scored six of the first eight points.
  • The Lions didn't allow the early hole to discourage them as they kept contact with the host, and following an 8-3 spurt, they trailed by just one (17-16). But Shaw secured the victory by scoring eight of the final nine points.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Lincoln's hitting percentage improved over all three sets.
  • Freshman Jaida Lumpkin (Middletown, Del./Middletown) led the team with 10 assists and was tied for the team-high with seven digs.
  • Freshman Haley Loper (Middletown, Del./St. Georges Technical) finished with eight kills on 20 attempts with four errors, while four other players had two kills each.
  • Junior Kaiya Lewis (Queens, N.Y./Queens Preparatory Academy) and freshman Erica Taylor (Romulus, MI/Romulus Summit Academy) had two blocks each.

  • Lincoln concludes the season 6 p.m. Thursday, hosting Goldey-Beacom in non-conference action.
