WBB Preview: Saint Joseph's

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA -The Lincoln University women's basketball team steps away from Division II action 2 p.m. Sunday with an exempted game against Saint Joseph's. It the second of three exempted games for the Lions.

SERIES HISTORY
    This is the first meeting between the two teams. It marks the second game against an Atlantic 10 team this season. Lincoln fell in the season opener to George Washington, 53-38.

REGIONALLY RANKED
    The Lincoln University women's basketball team was ranked ninth in the preseason D2SIDA Atlantic Regional poll. Indiana (PA) earned all first-place votes for 50 points, followed by Glenville State (41), Gannon (40), Bowie State (38), Virginia Union (26), Notre Dame (23), California (22), Charleston (14), Lincoln (12), and Fayetteville State (5).

BIG SPARK
    Senior swiss army knife Joy Morton (Yeadon, Pa./Penn Wood) is back after tallying 6.0 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. She is living up to her nickname "Big Spark" with the energy she brings while on the court. 
    She started the first two games of the season before coming off the bench in the second Mercyhurst contest. Morton is leading the team with 7.7 points on 6-of-13 shooting (46.2 percent), while pulling down 3.7 rebounds. 
    Morton has ventured to the free-throw line a team-high 11 times, converting nine (81.8 percent).

REBOUNDING MACHINE
    Senior transfer Kryshell Gordy (Chester, Pa./Ursuline Academy (Del.)) is crashing the glass with profound proficiency this season. She has pulled down 34 rebounds (11.3 per game) this season. Her 34 boards are more than twice as many as any teammate. Gordy also leads the team with five blocks

BATTLE TESTED
    The Lincoln University women's basketball team will play four games against Division I opponents, three of which will serve as exempted contests for LU. The Lions lost to George Washington in a regular-season meeting and fell to Syracuse. The game with Saint Joseph's will be followed by a game at Delaware State on December 16. 

LINEUP CHANGES
    Over the last three games, Lincoln has rolled out three different lineups. Only 
Kryshell Gordy (Chester, Pa./Ursuline Academy (Del.)) has started all three games. Nine different players have started a game for the Lions this year. 

CHARITY STRIPE
    Lincoln is averaging 20 free-throw attempts per game this season. The Lions have made (39) more than their opponents have attempted (37). However, LU is only converting 65 percent (39-of-60) of their attempts. 

MEET THE HAWKS: Saint Joseph's will be playing its first game of the season. The Hawks are coming off a 9-20 season. They have three graduate transfers Alayna Gribble (Pittsburgh), Olivia Ramil (Binghamton), and Alexis Santarelli (Lafayette) that will bring diverse experience and maturity to a team that will rely on the progression of their sophomore class.
Junior guard Katie Jekot returns after leading the team with 10.6 points per game. Her 182 three-point attempts were nearly 41 percent of the team's shots from beyond the arc.
