WBB Preview: Virginia State

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA - The Lincoln University women's basketball team returns to the road for a pair of CIAA contests, beginning 6 p.m. Saturday at Virginia State.

SERIES HISTORY
Despite winning four straight in the series, Lincoln trails Virginia State, 20-7, overall. 

I BRY-LIEVE
Fifth-year senior Bryanna Brown (New York, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin), a career 1,000-point scorer, is leading the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) with 16.8 points per game. She leads the conference, making 89.4 percent (84-of-94) of her free throws this season, and made a CIAA-best 84 made free throws. She leads the CIAA with 2.4 three-pointers per game.

Coming into the season, the guard was named preseason All-CIAA as a backcourt selection in the conference vote of head coaches and sports information personnel. 

VARIABLE STARTERS
For the eleventh time this season, Lincoln rolled out the starting lineup as Jaleesa Lanier (Easton, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic)Bryanna Brown (New York, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin)Jade Young (Philadelphia, Pa./Abington Friends School)Shantel Cheeks (Washington D.C./Rock Creek Christian Academy (Harcum College)) and Kryshell Gordy (Chester, Pa./Ursuline Academy (Del.)) for the second straight game.

Fifth-year senior Bryanna Brown (New York, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) has started 17 of 18 games. Lincoln is now 7-2 in games started by Lanier. 

ATLANTIC REGIONAL POLL
In the most recent D2SIDA Atlantic Region Poll, Lincoln moved up one spot to sixth. CIAA member Elizabeth City State fell from seventh to tenth after losing to the Lions last week. 

ATTENDANCE
Fans are showing up to Manuel Rivero this season as Lincoln leads the CIAA in home attendance, averaging 754 fans. 

TRANSITION POINTS
As a team, the Lions are at their best when they can gain points in transition. The Lions are 10-1 when they register at least 16 fast-break points and just 3-4 when they fail to record 16 points. Lincoln totaled 12 fast-break points in the loss to Shaw, marking the first time this season the Lions have been held to less than 16 fast-break points in consecutive games. 

FROM DOWNTOWN
Lincoln is second in the CIAA with 5.5 three-pointers per game and a league-high 120 total three-pointers. However, the Lions are fifth in percentage, making 28.4 percent.

DROPPING DIMES
Lincoln has two players ranked in the top six in assists and top 3 in assist to turnover ratio. Freshman Jaleesa Lanier (Easton, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) leads the CIAA with a ratio of 2.4 and is six with 2.8 assists. Junior Jade Young (Philadelphia, Pa./Abington Friends School) is second with 3.2 assists and second with a 1.5 ratio.
